'Texas Fight'-ing On

The Texas Longhorns are finally back on top where they ought to be; #1 in the country.

Well in my opinion, anyway.

After a thrilling victory over hated rival's Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry in Dallas, and a big statement win over #13 Missouri in at home.

So a lot of people are happy and harnessing joy right now with what's going on w/ the 'Horns in '40 acres'; I know I sure am.

Out of one of the players on the team that should be happy is Texas’ QB Colt McCoy. McCoy; a guy from the small town of Tuscola, Texas, really seems like a grounded, down-to-earth kind of guy. What I notice from him is that he’s a faithful Christian at heart, which is something common that the two of us possess. After every game, when a sideline reporter from ABC or ESPN want to question him after a huge win, he always comes out saying before anything the initial question had asked; “I just gotta give God the glory…”, or like something along the lines of that quote. That’s what really got me and it’s had me hooked on his play ever since he was a redshirt freshman backing up the past Texas great Vince Young.

Everyone is well aware of how Vince could take control of a game with his feet; but also with his arm. All of a sudden, this year McCoy’s has shot out of a cannon this year in perfectionate form, w/ his team’s style of play, rank, and his stats to prove it.

Last year, which was Colt’s sophomore year, he discovered the usual ‘sophomore slump’ that a common athlete would go through, having a strikingly high number of interceptions and the TD number’s were par level, but what he’s done this year has really caught the eyes of spectators nation wide.

Therefore he’s the leading front-runner for the Heisman trophy; completing the ball to the receiver over 80% of the time. The Longhorns now on top of the fresh new BCS rankings that were unveiled this week; first time they’ve been voted #1 in the regular season since ’84.

Not just all the credit goes to Colt alone. The rest of the guys that are making it happen; WRs Jordan Shipley, who’s gotten a TD grab in all 7 games so far in the season, and Quan Cosby; who’s been wanting to start up a baseball career; has for a short time, but then had second thoughts about it and decided to play football, and thank goodness he did just that.

Also, credit has to go to the head coach, Mack Brown, who knows that this team “has been a team since day one.” Newly acquisitioned defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, whose fire and intensity really gets the defensive players on the team up on their toes and ready for anything that’ll come their way. Pretty much, the entire coaching staff for getting the players ready, focused, and ready to rock on Saturday mornings, afternoons or evenings.

As a fan of his and a fan of the Longhorns, period, (I’m very interested into going to UT after high school to pursue a career as a pharmacist; can’t settle for less.) I’m really proud of what he [Colt McCoy] has accomplished so far.

Coming in after the Texas great who led the team to 2 consecutive Rose Bowls; second one in ’05-’06 being for the National Championship (Young becoming MVP of both; championship game vs. USC; runs for 200, passes for 267.), to now being the little guy who’s got a lot of potential, yet a lot to learn-

And I think he’s doing just fine. The team’s doing just fine, and at this rate with what the Longhorns have got going for them, they’ll definitely be in the driver’s seat for the 6th national championship in Texas football history.

I’ll definitely keep believin’ and giving God the glory; for something special to come out of this wonderful ride that is the 2008-2009 Texas Longhorns’ team.

Hook ‘em.
